The Deep Writing Project works to connect educators (of all kinds) who are committed to social justice, equity, and transforming school culture, strengthen educational practice through curiosity, self-reflection, and collaboration, and develop teachers’ capacity to lead, write, and advocate Each educator is the expert of their own experience and brings unique funds of knowledge to the cohort. That’s why this program is open to Savannah-area K-12 teachers, university professors, and community-based educators, including instructional coaches, administrators, behavior interventionists, or para pros. The Deep Writing Project offers the ability to collaborate with educators who are using writing to teach, lead, and advocate in powerful ways across all content areas.

Previous cohort participants have said:

“This institute was one of the more fulfilling, educational, and eye-opening classes I’ve ever been a part of (and I’m including my master’s program). [Megan] not only challenged us but also facilitated an educational safe space wherein myself and the other participants could be vulnerable and form a learning community somewhat like a family. My experiences in the DWP, and the focus on the concept of ‘critical hope’, made me not only rethink my approach to teaching, but also made me rethink my approach to life.”

“…personally and professionally challenged me to think more deeply about the people in front of me and the experiences they bring to the teacher/learning experience”

“…being in community with [educators] who believe in equity and justice and honoring people for who they are made me hopeful. It has been really hard to be hopeful lately and what I appreciated about the DWP is that it centered hope and reminded me that even though things look bleak there are people actively working against the things that seek to derail good work.”
