Whitney Shephard is an entrepreneur and community leader with twenty-five years’ experience in policy, planning, and design. She cofounded the consulting firm Transport Studio in 2013. Whitney manages diverse projects and serves as technical lead for geographic information systems, infographics and communications, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and public policy. Transport Studio’s mission is to promote healthy communities for the common good.
Her passion for the built and natural environments extends beyond the planning profession. With her husband, she co-owns Green Truck Neighborhood Pub, a Savannah restaurant that features local and organic farmers and craft American brewers. Together they support the local food movement and a variety of community organizations.
Whitney serves as President of the Georgia Planning Association, an organization of over 1,100 members statewide, including public agencies at all levels of government, private consultants, academics, concerned citizens, and planning officials. She founded GPA’s Mentor Program in 2014 and chaired it for its first six years, and is a state and federal policy advocate for the chapter. Whitney is the Secretary of Deep Center, an organization that fuels community change through youth writing, art, and culture programs and advocacy. She serves as Assistant Governor to Rotary International and is Past President of Metro Savannah Rotary. A committed grassroots organizer, she chairs the Chatham County Housing Coalition and the Savannah Mobility Advisory Committee. She was a charter member of the Coastal Empire Society of Women Engineers.
A proud ninth-generation Floridian, Whitney has lived in Georgia for nearly 30 years. Whitney is a Registered Professional Engineer and holds bachelor’s degrees in architecture and civil engineering, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Whitney is also a 2014 graduate of Leadership Southeast Georgia.
